Our Story
Bringing untold stories to light & inspiring hope through the arts
Night-Light Theatre CIC officially became a Community Interest Company in July 2019, but our journey began in 2017. Our Founder and Director, Sarah, initially led Group Arts Therapy and Drama for Wellbeing sessions in schools, pupil referral units, and prisons. These sessions had a powerful, transformative effect—bringing about meaningful change for both participants and staff.
Seeing the positive impact first-hand, Sarah recognised the need to grow this work and formalised Night-Light Theatre to deliver arts-based programmes that support wellbeing across communities in the North East.
From the outset, feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Our work fostered empathy, strengthened relationships, and offered a renewed sense of hope. In one prison, a participant described the sessions as the “closest thing to freedom,” which inspired our name—Night-Light—a symbol of a small light in dark places.
Sarah’s co-creation model, which actively involves participants in shaping each project, is now at the heart of everything we do. This approach has enabled us to expand our reach into schools, hospitals, prisons, and community spaces.
